MKCL’s IT Literacy and Functionality Program
This program of IT literacy is only of its kind in India at affordable cost and with high quality and mass-popularity in millions of households. It has received a very wide acclaim all over the state and has attracted over 3.4 million learners in the last 6 years including students and teachers, professionals and entrepreneurs, farmers and workers, housewives and senior citizens, etc.

As a first step to accomplish the mission objective to integrate in a self sustainable manner the IT education and the IT enabled education with the basic teaching, learning process and its management, MKCL launched a state-wide IT Literacy drive in the form of Maharashtra State Certificate in Information Technology Program - MS-CIT wef. July 2002.

This programs is implemented on a state-wide canvas in Maharashtra and on a mass-scale through a private-public-community partnership (PPCP) network of about 3500 Authorized Training Centers (ATCs). These ATCs have been established by small and medium IT entrepreneurs and educational enterprises spread over all areas of the state including metropolitan, urban, semi-urban, rural, tribal and hilly regions.

All the ATCs are equipped with about 25,000 state-of-the-art multimedia and Internet ready computers, software, communication facilities, content, eLearning framework, web-based management framework, about 12000 certified trainers, human resource of 12000 knowledge workers. All ATCs benefit from MKCL’s brand identity of high recognition, repute and credibility among the masses.

Under the MS-CIT Program, MKCL offers a novel curriculum, excellent study material in the form of highly illustrated book supplemented by interactive multimedia tutor CD with rich voice over in English, Marathi and Hindi containing both inform and perform types of content. A state-of-the-art delivery mechanism through MKCL’s eLearning framework viz. ERA includes Learning and Content Management System support to millions of learners in a personalized manner, teachers’ resource material, academic support to the teachers, day-wise monitoring of curriculum schedule, hands-on assignment planning and question banks leading to intermediate formative skill tests followed by final online summative examination and instant e-Certification jointly with the Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education (MSBTE), a Government of Maharashtra Examining Body.

In addition to MS-CIT, MKCL also offers MS-ACIT Series of courses in IT functionality in the areas of DTP, Financial Accounting, Web Designing, Multimedia and Animations, eContent Development, Hardware and Networking, etc. leading to enhanced employability of the learners.

MKCL, through its International Certificate in Information Technology - ICIT and IACIT programs, offers IT literacy and functionality education and training to learners outside Maharashtra State in various other states of India and abroad.

All the IT Literacy and Functionality programs are being offered through a network of authorized training centers spread over the metropolitan, urban, semi-urban and also the rural, tribal and hilly areas. A large number of centers have been set up in colleges, polytechnics and Industrial Training Institutes without any substantial capital expenditure of these institutions. This has emerged as the single largest network of the IT Training Centers in India. This network is established on the basis of the Public Private Partnership Community (PPCP) strategy and through the involvement of hundreds of small and medium local educational enterprises and entrepreneurs. This has resulted in a self-sustainable model for over 3500 Authorized Training Centers involved in the program.

The coordination of this network is done through a fully web-based management framework viz. SOLAR designed and developed by MKCL. This framework has brought the uniqueness to MKCL management model as it enables almost paperless management of such a massive network in a time-bound manner and on a large geographical region amidst occasionally adverse conditions beset with power outages, telecom link failures, paucity of bandwidth, etc.
