President & Managing Trustee, BAIF Development Research Foundation, a national level organization working on Rural Development and applied research with over 5 million families in 15 states of India.
Has over 35 years’ experience in Natural Resource Management and Livelihoods. Worked on Village Production Systems, Appropriate Technology and Agribusiness.
Was involved in Institutional Development of BAIF from a primarily single sector organization to a multi-sectoral development organization and as a Resource Institution in areas of Watershed Development and Tribal Livelihoods.
Served as an expert on various Committees of State and Central Government, National and International Agencies. Serves as a Member of the Governing Boards of BAIF Development Research Foundation and its Associate organizations, and a number of other development organisations.
Awards / Recognitions:
A decree issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Agrifood and Forestry, Republic of France in 2016, as Commander in the Order of Agricultural Merit. The Ambassador of France in India, Mr. Alexandre Ziegler, awarded the insignia to Mr. Sohani at an investiture ceremony held on February 2, 2018 at New Delhi.
Awarded the “Distinguished Alumnus Award 2011” by the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay in recognition of outstanding contributions to Rural and Community Development.
Awarded the “Maha – Intrapreneur Award 2013” by Praj Industries Ltd. at the hands of Dr. Anil Kakodkar.
Published / Presented over 25 papers at National / International conferences.
