Dr. Ajit Keshav Ranade is a B.Tech. (1982 passout) from the Department of Electrical Engineering. He holds a Ph.D. from Harvard Business School.
Prof. Ranade is a noted economist. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from Brown University, USA. Before that, he completed his Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, after graduating in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.
Dr. Ajit Ranade is the Group Chief Economist and President at the Aditya Birla Group, a diversified multinational conglomerate with businesses spanning metals, cement, textiles, insurance and telecom. His career includes academic and corporate assignments, teaching in universities in India and the U.S., and serving as Chief Economist and Head of Microfinance Business at ABN AMRO Bank, India.
He is currently a member of the Western Region Council of the CII and of the Economic Affairs Committee of FICCI. He chairs the Research Advisory Committee of the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance, has served on various committees of the Reserve Bank of India, and is a member of the Board of India Today Economists. He is also a member of the Senate and Advisory Council of the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay.
Dr. Ranade has been actively involved in IIT Bombay alumni activities, serving on the Board of the IIT Bombay Alumni Association for more than three years, and currently as its Chairman. He was part of the organising team for Pan-IIT 2006 and co-chaired the Sponsorship Committee. As Chair and Representative of IITBAA, he is also a member of the Global Board of Pan-IIT and the Executive Committee of Pan-IIT India.
